Toby Sharpis an urban thinker and urban researcher and director of the Toby Sharp Hub for Creativity, Innovation, and Cross Pollination.
Born and raised in Tk’emlúps/Kamloops, Heather Mclean has lived in Toronto, and Glasgow for the past 22 years. She is a feminist researcher, writer and performance artist currently teaching geography for Thompson River University’s Open Learning division and researching community health promotion for the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health at the University of Northern British Columbia. Her drag king character Toby Sharp: The Tool for Urban Change is based on her doctoral research on gender, art and urban politics and her past life as an urban planner in Toronto. She has performed Toby at Buddies in Bad Times theater in Toronto with Dirty Plotz, a queer/feminist cabaret collective. She has also led drag king walking tours for the Workers’ Theatre, the People’s Bank of Govanhill arts collective, and the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland, and for the Edinburgh College of Art.
